HOMEWORK FOR FRIDAY THE 17th

I apologize for getting myself and the boys mixed up about the homework worksheet. To clarify the info on the periodic table: the Atomic Number is the number above the abbreviation or symbol; the Atomic Mass is the number below the symbol, it can be a whole number or a decimal; the # of protons is the same as the Atomic Number, the # of electrons is additional of all the small numbers below the element name (this is configuration of electrons in each layer or orbit),and is equal to # of protons; the most common # of neutrons is the Atomic Mass - the # of protons. If an atomic mass has a decimal, round up or down first then subtract the # of protons. So # protons = # electrons, and # neutrons = Atomic Mass - # of protons. The reason is that the positive protons have to balance the negative electrons.
If you have any questions about this call me because there's another chart on Friday's quiz.
For Friday Review Lesson 1-4 for quiz. Know your definitions. Read p 27 and write 1/2 page summary. Do not copy the sentences from the book as this is a crime called plagiarism. Complete the Learning About the Elements worksheet.
For greater understanding go to www.usborne-quicklinks.com; type science in the box, then page 28. There are 3 websites on the periodic table to help you understand it better.
